Research Grand Rounds Presents: “Structural and functional insights into the link between olfaction, cognition, and drive from a translational perspective”
Sponsor: MHRI and GHUCCTS
Time: 12 - 1:00 PM
Location: Live Stream Only
Speaker(s): Evaristus Nwulia, MD, MHS
This month's Research Grand Rounds features Evaristus Nwulia, MD, MHS, Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Translational Neuroscience Laboratory at Howard University College of Medicine. Dr. Nwulia will discuss "Structural and functional insights into the link between olfaction, cognition, and drive from a translational perspective".
Dr. Nwulia's NIH (NIMH, NIAAA, NIA, NIDA)-supported research has focused on genetics and mechanisms of depression, bipolar and psychiatric disorders, and on olfactory mechanisms in dementia, opioid use disorder, and trauma resilience. He has gone on to translate his mechanistic research to develop and evaluate novel therapeutic interventions. His research grand rounds will focus on Alzheimer’s disease and opioid use disorder as human diseases that illustrate overlapping circuitry between olfaction, cognition, and drive and how these olfactory paradigms may improve diagnosis and serve as the basis for novel therapeutic interventions.
Research Grand Rounds are sponsored by the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science (GHUCCTS) and MedStar Health Research Institute to bring together our diverse clinical and research communities to share research that spans disciplines and stages of translation to improve individual and community health.
