Research Grand Rounds Presents: “HIV and HIV prevention in cisgender women “
Sponsor: MHRI and GHUCCTS
Time: 12 - 1:00 PM
Location: Live Stream Only
Speaker(s): Rachel K. Scott, MD, MPH
Dr. Scott serves as Scientific Director of Women’s Health Research at MHRI, Associate Chair for Research and Director of the Washington Women's Center for Positive Living, both in the MWHC Department of Women’s & Infants’ Services, and as Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Georgetown. She has leveraged what is perhaps the largest clinical practice in the developed world that serves women living with HIV during pregnancy as a platform to support translational and practice-changing clinical research. She will review the HIV pandemic and current prevention strategies in cisgender women (CGW), then focus on her own highly collaborative, discipline-spanning NIH-supported research, including preliminary results from a large retrospective cohort of pregnancy outcomes, prospective studies exploring placental pathophysiology, and preliminary results of a population pharmacokinetic model and clinical trial simulation to evaluate HIV PrEP dosing in pregnancy, and the results of PrEP implementation study focused on CGW.
Research Grand Rounds are sponsored by the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science (GHUCCTS) and MedStar Health Research Institute to bring together our diverse clinical and research communities to share research that spans disciplines and stages of translation to improve individual and community health.
