GHUCCTS Research Grand Rounds

Research Grand Rounds Presents:  “Social and Environmental Determinants of Health for Population Health and Precision Medicine” “

Sponsor: MHRI and GHUCCTS
Time: 12 - 1:00 PM
Location: Live Stream Only
Speaker(s):  Blair Christain, PhD

Dr. Blair Christian serves as Research Scientist in the Biomedical, Engineering, and Computing group at Oak Ridge National Laboratories (ORNL), with joint appointment at University of Tennessee, and leads ORNL participation in the GHUCCTS. Dr. Christian’s research background and interests are in statistical genetics, clinical informatics, data integration, and scalable data-driven biomedical discovery that depend on a wide variety of, sometimes unconventional, data sources and types, and on experimental and modeling approaches which leverage the supercomputing capabilities at ORNL. His talk will focus on social and environmental determinants of health, their roles in population health and precision medicine, their gaps in current EHR and health modeling data, and new approaches developed in recent and ongoing research to overcome these limitations. We hope that his presentation, by highlighting cutting edge approaches and their potential applications may lead to new collaborations focused on addressing health disparities and inequities in the DC metropolitan region.

Research Grand Rounds are sponsored by the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science (GHUCCTS) and MedStar Health Research Institute to bring together our diverse clinical and research communities to share research that spans disciplines and stages of translation to improve individual and community health.
